One town, two counties
If your address is in the Mecklenburg County part of Davidson, you choose from Medicare Advantage plans offered in Mecklenburg County. If it's in the Iredell County part, you choose from plans offered in Iredell County. Two neighbors with the same town name can have different plan lists.
Matt MacMillan, an independent licensed broker based in nearby Mooresville, looks up plans using your exact address, so you only compare options you can actually enroll in.
Medicare Advantage basics
Medicare Advantage (Part C) is a way to get your Medicare coverage through a private plan approved by Medicare. These plans cover the services Original Medicare Part A and Part B cover, many include Part D drug coverage, and most use provider networks. You generally keep paying your Part B premium.
Moving within the Lake Norman area
Moving from one county to another can change which plans are available to you. If your current plan isn't offered at your new address, you'll generally have a Special Enrollment Period to choose a new one. Matt can help you check before or after a move.
When you can enroll or make changes
These are the main windows for joining or changing a Medicare Advantage plan:
- Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): a seven-month window that includes the three months before your 65th birthday month, your birthday month and the three months after.
- Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 to December 7 each year, with changes taking effect January 1.
- Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP): January 1 to March 31, if you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan. You can make one change during this period.
- Special Enrollment Periods: certain life events, such as moving or losing other coverage, may let you make changes at other times.

Matt is an independent broker, not the insurance company. He gathers your doctors, prescriptions and priorities, compares the plans he represents that are offered in your county, and explains the trade-offs so you can decide. He also helps with enrollment and stays your point of contact after you enroll.
