Medicare Advantage for Troutman residents
A Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan is another way to get your Medicare coverage, through a private plan approved by Medicare. It covers what Original Medicare Part A and Part B cover, and many plans include Part D drug coverage. You generally keep paying your Part B premium.
Troutman is in Iredell County, so you choose from the plans offered there. The list, the networks and the costs can change from one year to the next, so it's worth reviewing your plan each fall.
Prescriptions and pharmacies
Drug costs can differ a lot from plan to plan. Each plan has its own list of covered drugs, called a formulary, and many plans have preferred pharmacies where your copays may be lower.
Matt enters your prescriptions and the pharmacy you use, so you can see how each plan would treat them before you choose.
When you can enroll or make changes
You can join or change a Medicare Advantage plan during these windows:
- Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): a seven-month window that includes the three months before your 65th birthday month, your birthday month and the three months after.
- Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 to December 7 each year, with changes taking effect January 1.
- Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP): January 1 to March 31, if you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan. You can make one change during this period.
- Special Enrollment Periods: certain life events, such as moving or losing other coverage, may let you make changes at other times.
