Medicare Advantage for Denver residents
Medicare Advantage (Part C) is a way to get your Medicare coverage through a private plan approved by Medicare. These plans cover the services Original Medicare Part A and Part B cover, many include Part D drug coverage, and most use provider networks. You generally keep paying your Part B premium.
Matt MacMillan, an independent licensed broker based across the lake in Mooresville, compares the plans he represents that are offered in Lincoln County and explains the differences in plain language.
Lincoln County plans and lake-area doctors
People in Denver may see doctors in Lincoln County, in Mooresville, in Huntersville or in Charlotte. A plan's network may include some of those providers and not others, and networks can change each year.
Matt checks each of your doctors, hospitals and your pharmacy against every plan he compares for you.
When you can enroll or make changes
You can join or change a Medicare Advantage plan during these windows:
- Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): a seven-month window that includes the three months before your 65th birthday month, your birthday month and the three months after.
- Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 to December 7 each year, with changes taking effect January 1.
- Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP): January 1 to March 31, if you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan. You can make one change during this period.
- Special Enrollment Periods: certain life events, such as moving or losing other coverage, may let you make changes at other times.
